Brian D. Hanley is Asia Director for Internews, where he leads media development programs in Afghanistan, China, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. He brings more than 20 years of progressively responsible experience in development and foreign policy, including more than a decade of senior management practice in Asia. Prior to joining Internews, he served as a Senior Democracy and Governance Field Advisor in USAID’s Center of Excellence on Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG). Before that he was Asia Director with Search for Common Ground (SFCG), and he oversaw SFCG’s work in Indonesia, as Country Director. He also spent years in independent Timor-Leste building civil society and media capacity. He has served at various times in the U.S. Congress, with two Democratic Senators (Dodd and Wellstone), and was a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Kingston, Jamaica.
