Research Associate
Ines Drefs is a Research Associate with the EU-funded project “Media, Conflict and Democratisation” (MeCoDEM). The project investigates the role of media in democratization conflicts in Egypt, Kenya, Serbia and South Africa. Ines holds an Erasmus Mundus Master in “Journalism and Media within Globalization: The European Perspective” of Aarhus University in Denmark, University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and University of Hamburg in Germany. Furthermore, she is currently involved in a PhD program at University of Hamburg in Germany. In her dissertation Ines analyses professional journalism in the social web with a special focus on International Public Broadcasting (Deutsche Welle). She is especially interested in journalistic handling of user comments and its democratic potential. Her research interest focuses on journalism, media and democratization, political communication, and (online) deliberation.
