Media systems around the world are unique in terms of the historical continuum of their development. Yet, while the circumstances of their origin and evolution might have been different, the values they stand for and strive towards remains the same with regard to their unwavering fidelity to the reporting of true and factual information and the freedom to express, inform, and make governments accountable to their citizens. This panel will discuss the most important success stories of the media sector in Southeast Asia and the values that have driven the success. It will enquire about what makes journalism in this part of the world special, what lessons can be shared with other regions, and what can nascent media organisations in other parts of the world learn from them.
