Drone journalism has the potential to meet some of the vital challenges journalists are facing in an evolving media landscape. Journalists today are under constant pressure to generate innovative online video content despite decreasing budgets. Besides, many areas of the world still present a strong threat to the safety and security of journalists. In such an environment drones present a unique opportunity to meet these constraints and at the same time enable quality journalism. These autonomous and remotely controlled devices allow journalists to gain access to places that are difficult to reach. Moreover, their aerial shots provide a unique and often evocative perspective. This session will engage with the potential for drones in current journalistic practice.
