Pakistan Editors for Safety was created in response to the deteriorating situation for journalists in Pakistan. The organisation’s basic philosophy is that an attack against any member of the media is considered to be an attack against all. In such a situation the organisation makes a threat assessment in order to determine a joint strategy and response with regards to the coverage of the violence or threats of violence. The organisation also assists affected journalists by providing resources, information, expertise, and outreach. The aim of the organisation is to unite and strengthen the voices of the media community who speak out against violence committed against journalists. It not only provides journalists a strong support system but also helps to create a strong and united voice to counteract attacks against the community.
Rapporteur for the session: Evelien Wijkstra, Policy and Advocacy Officer, Free Press Unlimited.
