2016 Jakarta World Forum on Media Development

Indonesia’s Central Information Commission (KIP) and President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo urged all public institutions, public sector companies, including local administrations to provide more public access to their information. In order to encourage more public institutions to provide access to information KIP instituted a system of recognition and reward for those institutions and companies who showed outstanding achievement in this regard. Aimed at fostering a culture of mutual trust between the government and its citizenry it sought to promote a more active citizenship by increasing governmental transparency and accountability. The purpose was not just to make government activities more transparent and accountable but also to promote a system of government that is more responsive to the needs of its citizens by enabling an active dialogue between them.
