Innovative media outlets and projects are changing our media ecologies by challenging and transforming the way we create and use media. Through designing new platforms and creative forms of mobile communication they are advancing freedom of expression. In an attempt to find out more about how digital technologies are being used to further freedom of expression and access to information, DW Akademie carried out research across Africa, Asia and Latin America. This initiative provided exciting insights into the wealth and range of activities that are taking place in this arena. Subsequently leading to DW Akademie developing a “Digital Innovation Library” to showcase examples and exchange experiences. This online service enables entrepreneurs, journalists, activists, media development experts, and donors to browse and search different start-up projects, understand their work and learn from them. The speakers will share findings from the research and explore the potential of this new resource as well as present a new video metrics app developed by DWA.
