Educating tomorrow's journalists during political transitions: Myanmar Journalism Institute

The Myanmar Journalism Institute was officially registered in Yangon, Myanmar, in 2014. It aims at becoming the leading independent national media development institute providing high quality services and training according to international standards of journalism ethics, neutrality, pluralism, and methodology of investigation. It is the first private and independent journalism school offering a one-year training program to working journalists and entry-level students. In its programs, the Institute is addressing the needs defined by Myanmar's media stakeholders, as the media industry continues to evolve following the liberalisation of the media sector with the democratic transition. It was launched with the assistance of a four European countries in partnership with the Burmese media group “Forever”. The courses of the MJI are open to all media groups and is based upon consultation and participation of all local stakeholders including the Ministry of Information, journalists’ associations, press groups and organisations, universities and NGOs.
