Press Start is the first crowdfunding platform designed specifically to support independent journalism in developing and transitional countries. Investigative journalism is often stymied due to funding constraints. Press Start attempts to make sure that there are no voices that are silenced due to want of funds. Launched with a grant from Google’s Digital News Initiative and Innovation Fund they have initiated their first crowdfunding campaign for group of outstanding and award-winning journalists from Armenia, Congo, Honduras, Lebanon and Macedonia. They are also on the lookout for highly talented journalists, in any language, who might benefit from Press Start.

Rapporteur for the session: Natalia Merchan, Fundraising and Donor Relations Officer, Free Press Unlimited.
