David Angeles is a Program Officer for Southeast Asia at the Washington DC-based National Endowment for Democracy (NED), a private, nonprofit foundation dedicated to the growth and strengthening of democratic institutions around the world. His grant portfolio focuses largely on supporting ethnic minority rights and ethnic media organizations in Burma/Myanmar. Prior to joining the NED in 2011, he worked in education for five years in Thailand and Burma/Myanmar with various civil society and human rights groups. Since 2014, he has also served as an Asia-Pacific analyst for Freedom House’s “Freedom in the World” report, an annual publication that assesses the condition of political rights and civil liberties around the world. He received a master's degree in international affairs from the American University of Paris and a bachelor's degree in international studies from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
