Bill Orme, USA, is an author, editor, and independent consultant specialized in media development and strategic communications, with long experience supporting independent journalism in emerging democracies and managing global advocacy campaigns. He currently represents GFMD at the United Nations, with a special focus on the access-to-information commitments in the UN's new Sustainable Development Goals. From 2002 to 2014 he was a senior staffer at the United Nations Development Programme, serving as Chief of Communications & Publishing for the Human Development Reports, UNDP Policy Advisor for Independent Media Development, and UNDP’s Director of External Communications. A veteran foreign correspondent, Bill served in the 1990s as Executive Director of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).
